I sent Accuracy Systems a 185 series Mini 14 that I inherited to mainly dress it up a bit, improve the very poor accuracy and have a rifle I would be confident in hunting with or protecting my family if need be.

The folks at Accuracy Systems are hands down the most communicative and helpful people I have dealt with when it comes to gunsmithing. They made sure I was satisfied from day 1.

As far as the work done I had them install a scout rail, barrel stabilizer, adjustable gas block and recoil spring. Also, cut , re-crown and thread my factory barrel and install the M1A flash hider and sight combo. Lastly the deluxe trigger job.

Results:

Work completed extremely fast IMO. Quality- precise. Looks like it was made that way to begin with.

Accuracy: here's the big one... went from at best 5" groups at 50 yds to avg. 1/2" to 1.5" groups at 50 yds with OPEN SIGHTS! Yep I did say 1/2" groups. I tested 5 different ammo brands and bullet weights and ALL results were what I consider to be good Accuracy. My groups would open up after about 5 rounds but that is no fault of Accuracy Systems. I have a pencil barrel. But after cooling the groups shrunk right back down.

Trigger: Oh, so much better.

Conclusion: I now have a rifle that I am proud of, that is reliable, accurate, and that I have full confidence it. How many Mini 14 owners can say that they can ring steel center mass at 250 yds with open sights, kneeling, sustained moderate rate fire. Until last week, I couldn't. But now I can. No, mine is not a precision rifle, but Accuracy Systems can build those too.

I had been looking for a forward scope mount for an AIM Sports 2-7 "scout scope" after discovering that the advertised eye relief fell several inches short.
After trying several different mounts on several different rifles, including my Mini 14, nothing worked. I thought that I'd just have to eat the scope cost.
I ran across the Accuracy Systems 7.25" mount by accident while looking for other Mini parts. I figured, "why not?" Combined with Warne low Mountain Tech 30mm rings, it worked perfectly.
The scope clears the mount by less than the width of a spark plug gap, clears the Tech Spec rear sight, and gives just the right amount of eye relief for a comfortable, repeatable cheek weld (well, jaw weld, it's still a scope).
Worth every penny!

I purchased a Ruger Mini-14 in late 2022 in California (it’s one of the least-restricted semi-auto rifles in California, because it doesn’t LOOK like an “assault rifle”). Frankly I was disappointed with its performance out of the box. The trigger was squishy, it was prone to both feed jams and failures to eject, the safety was located INSIDE the trigger guard, and it just didn’t seem very accurate (not that I’m a great shot).

I did a lot of Googling to find an company with strong references that could make my Mini-14 a "better gun”. I wasn’t sure how much better it could be but I felt like anything would be an improvement. I came across Accuracy Systems online, with many customers raving about both the quality of their work and the integrity of the owner, Carl Emmite. A lot of folks highlighted the precision of work by Accuracy Systems; I’m a biomedical engineer and “precision” is a matter of life and death in my field, so I was drawn to that.

I had a few pleasant and informative email and phone exchanges with Carl, where he explained the various improvements he could make to my Mini-14. He was very careful not to over-promise, given that the Mini-14 is not a $10,000 sniper rifle and never will be. Given that I’m in California, I also had to go back and forth a few times with Carl before I understood how to ship my Mini-14 to him legally and receive it back. Carl made that process as simple as it can be.

I opted for a pretty comprehensive set of upgrades: harmonic barrel stabilizer II, adjustable gas block, extra power guide spring, shock buffer, advanced trigger job, extended magazine release, and extended safety. Carl was very clear about price and installation timing and he delivered within those estimates.

When I received the gun back from Carl, the first thing that impressed me was the packaging, which was much better than how the gun was packaged when it was new. It was wrapped in bubble wrap, then shrink wrapped, then placed in a solid cardboard box. It was extremely safe inside all that.

Once unwrapped, the gun looked great – all matching stainless parts (as requested). Even before I took it to the range, I could tell that the action was much smoother and the trigger felt extremely crisp. The external safety and extended magazine release were both nice improvements too.

The biggest improvement though became apparent at the range. Shooting this gun was now smooth, precise and accurate – noticeably improved in all respects. I’m still dialing everything in yet I’m already shooting 2” groups at 100 yards. Again, I’m not the best shot. I feel like Carl’s work makes me look better than I really am at the range.

One head’s up (and this is not a criticism of Carl’s work): this gun doesn’t like lower-powered ammo. Carl warned me that the extra power spring would improve reliability overall, but not necessarily with lighter ammo. I bought a selection of ammo and learned which ones have 100% reliability with this gun as configured (Hornady black 5.56 62 grain is both ultra reliable and very accurate). Before Carl’s work, this Mini-14 had problems with ALL ammo, so I’m delighted to have some ammo parameters I can stay within and get great results.

All in all, working with Carl has been a real pleasure with an outstanding outcome. FYI, my firearms instructor took one look at my upgraded Mini-14 and said, “That looks like Carl’s work!” I could have just asked him for a referral and saved all that Googling!

Subject: 7mm Rem Mag build

Carl,

I wanted to get back to you about the 7mm Rem Mag you built for me. I am so pleased with the gun and the accuracy I have found with it. I'm attaching a picture of the target from my last load development outing with the gun. It shot a single hole (3 shot groups) with my 195 gr Berger EOL handload and N570. Average velocity was 2944 fps, and the SD was 8.1. This was exactly what I had the gun built to do, and it will be my hunting round. It also shot a single hole with the factory 175 gr ELDX bullets I sent you, which will be a great backup.

The gun was great during barrel break in, but really came together after!

` Hi Carl! I finally got the scope on my Remington 700 custom rifle today, and we went to the range to zero her and start breaking her in. I am shooting my old pet loads that the gun used to like for break in, since I have around 120 of them loaded up. They are 168 grain Berger hunting VLDs in front of a minimum load of H1000. The new gun loves them too! Literally shot two, three shot groups that were one hole! Not a ragged hole, a single caliber size hole! The biggest three shot group was only a half inch!

Thank you so much! I'm going to get back to you more once I start testing the loads I want to shoot with it. I really would like to do a full review after that. Preliminary results are amazing though!

Hi Guy's, The wooden birch Mini 14 hand guard came today! That is a nice piece of woodwork! The finish is close enough to factory that if you didn't know it wasn't original, you wouldn't think anything of it. It could 1/16' longer on the receiver end. I say that as a real world QC input, not a complaint. I love it, thanks for a great product!

That 243WSSM finally got some work!

Got my Over the Counter Public Lands NM Barbary Sheep Ram with it. I have hunted them for 7 years or so. Killed a few ewes but the last 3 years I have held out for a Ram. This is a OTC Year around tag and they are massively pressured 24/7 - 365 and pursued every single day, week and double on the weekends!

He is way better than I expected or hoped for on that kind of hunt.

It was a 408yd shot across the canyon with just a factory 95gr Silver Tip ... I don't like it but its the only thing I have or can find. Sometimes it fragments in an animal.

On this one he was hit twice. High Spine and a thru and thru pass. 2nd round Double lung center punch and a total pass thru too but the entry immediately saw a violent energy shock wave that bruised probably 18" around the initial wound channel and then passed thru the other side in a standard exit. Because these guys are pretty thin bodied I have been seeing these other Fad-ish calibers like 6.5PRC, 300PRC, and even 6.5Creedmoor pass right thru them going too fast and not having the time to expand well. (I'm now a Guide so I see alot of calibers in the field these days). I wanted to see how this fast / violent little pill did.... I like it. Further field time will tell if I can find more dang ammo.

Anyway. thought it would be fun for you all to see that 243WSSM at work.

Talked to your guy on a reamer... that 6.8Western is in stock. I am going to try and get the receivers up to you on my next trip north and lets build an AR-10 in that caliber for fun to see what it can do.

No rush on the order; I'm looking forward to getting the rail installed, but I'm still waiting for a friend of mine to touch up a few scuffs on my wooden stock, so there's plenty of time. Hi Carl,
The stock, gas block and Stabilizer II for my Mini 14 went together perfectly. It took a senior moment to realize it took a little pressure to properly seat the bushing. Initial setting kicked brass about 12’. I turned it down a quarter turn and now brass goes about 8’-10’. Zeroed on a 1.5" dot at 25 yards with a 3/4" group. That’s with developing cataracts!

I settled on federal fusion 123gr for hunting and it proved to work very. The Buck was about 60yds. Javalina 100yds snake was 6 feet.
